Description
Glycogen phosphorylase catalyses the phosphorylation of glycogen to glucose-1-phosphate and is an allosteric enzyme of central importance in carbohydrate metabolism. Three genes encode the brain, liver and muscle isoforms of the enzyme — PYGB, PYGL and PYGM — and the brain form has been the focus of efforts to design inhibitory compounds potentially useful for the therapeutic treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Antibodies.com supplies this rabbit polyclonal antibody to PYGB for use in Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC). It is unconjugated, reactive with human, mouse and rat samples, and is provided at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol. The antibody was raised against recombinant full-length human PYGB and specifically detects endogenous levels of PYGB protein. It was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum using epitope-specific immunogen and is greater than 95% pure as judged by SDS-PAGE, with a target band of approximately 97 kDa.
The target is also referred to as glycogen phosphorylase, brain form (GPBB), and the GPBB isoform is commonly used as a marker for astrocytes.
