Parvalbumin is a small, high-affinity calcium-binding protein that serves as a marker for fast-contracting skeletal muscle fibers and a defined subset of GABAergic inhibitory interneurons in the central nervous system, including fast-spiking basket and chandelier cells. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is raised against human PVALB and cross-reacts with mouse and rat orthologues, making it useful for comparative neuroscience and muscle physiology workflows.

The reagent is supplied at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, packaged as a 100 µl vial, and validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry. Sodium azide in the buffer helps prevent microbial contamination during routine refrigerated storage, while the glycerol acts as a cryoprotectant to stabilise the immunoglobulin fraction. For longer-term storage, the product may be kept frozen in working aliquots to minimise freeze-thaw cycles and preserve binding activity.

Researchers routinely apply this reagent to label fast-twitch myofibres in skeletal muscle sections, to map parvalbumin-positive interneuron populations in cortex and hippocampus, and to investigate inhibitory circuit alterations in models of epilepsy, schizophrenia, and autism-spectrum disorders. The unconjugated format also gives users flexibility to conjugate the antibody to their own fluorophores, biotin, or enzymes for custom detection strategies.
