Produced in rabbit as an unconjugated polyclonal IgG, this Primary Antibody from Antibodies.com is raised against Peroxiredoxin 1 (PRDX1), a 22 kDa thiol-dependent peroxidase (Uniprot Q06830, gene ID 5052) that catalyses the reduction of H2O2 and organic hydroperoxides through a conserved 2-Cys catalytic mechanism. The reagent is supplied as 50 µl of liquid antiserum and is validated for Western blot on cell and tissue lysates and for immunohistochemistry on fixed sections, with confirmed reactivity against both human and mouse PRDX1.

PRDX1 maps to chromosome 1p34.1 and is the same protein historically termed PAGA, NKEFA, and PRX1, a member of the typical 2-Cys peroxiredoxin subfamily. Because the antibody is polyclonal, individual preparations recognise multiple epitopes across the target, which is useful for detecting conformational variants, partially degraded fragments, and oxidative modifications such as over-oxidation of the catalytic cysteine to sulfinic or sulfonic acid, a covalent switch that converts PRDX1 from an active peroxidase into a high-molecular-weight chaperone complex.

The reagent is commonly deployed in studies of cellular redox homeostasis, ROS-driven signalling through NF-κB, HIF-1α, and JNK pathways, the adaptive response of cancer cells to oxidative stress (including esophageal, lung, pancreatic, thyroid, and oral tumours), and mechanisms of neurodegeneration tied to peroxide accumulation. Recommended handling: aliquot on receipt, store at -20°C, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve antibody activity.
