PPOX (Protoporphyrinogen Oxidase) is the penultimate enzyme of the heme biosynthetic pathway, catalyzing the six-electron oxidation of protoporphyrinogen IX to protoporphyrin IX at the inner mitochondrial membrane. Loss-of-function variants in the PPOX gene cause variegate porphyria, making reliable detection of the protein valuable in hepatic, dermal, and metabolic disease research.

This Antibodies.com reagent is a rabbit polyclonal antibody raised against PPOX, supplied as 100 µl of an unconjugated preparation at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol. The antibody has been validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence applications, and it detects PPOX from human, mouse, and rat samples.

Researchers studying mitochondrial heme synthesis, porphyria disease models, and oxidative metabolism in hepatic and neural tissue use it to track endogenous PPOX expression in cell lysates and tissue sections. Each vial is intended for research use only and should be stored refrigerated; small aliquots are recommended to limit freeze-thaw cycles and preserve binding activity across the shelf life of the reagent.
