Raised in rabbit against the patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 2 (PNPLA2), this unconjugated IgG polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is supplied as a 100 µl liquid vial validated for Western blot detection of endogenous target in human, mouse, and rat samples. The affinity-purified antibody recognizes the protein at its expected molecular weight of approximately 55 kDa under denaturing SDS-PAGE conditions in adipose, liver, and skeletal muscle lysates. PNPLA2, the enzyme more commonly called adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) or desnutrin, catalyzes the rate-limiting initial hydrolysis of triacylglycerols stored in lipid droplets and supplies free fatty acids for mitochondrial beta-oxidation in oxidative tissues, making this reagent a standard tool in metabolic disease research, including studies of neutral lipid storage disease with myopathy (NLSDM) caused by PNPLA2 loss-of-function mutations, hepatic steatosis models, and exercise-induced fat mobilization. For short-term storage, refrigerate at 4 °C; for longer projects, freeze working aliquots at -20 °C to limit freeze-thaw cycles and preserve activity over the shelf life of the vial. The polyclonal format offers broader epitope coverage than monoclonal alternatives when probing conserved mammalian epitopes, which is particularly useful in comparative studies across human, mouse, and rat models of adipose biology.
