Plakophilin 2 (PKP2) is a structural armadillo-repeat protein of the desmosomal plaque that anchors intermediate filaments to the plasma membrane, and Antibodies.com supplies a rabbit polyclonal anti-PKP2 reagent validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence. The unconjugated IgG preparation detects human, mouse, and rat PKP2, supporting studies of cell-cell adhesion in cardiac intercalated discs, stratified epithelia, and tumor-derived cell lines.

Plakophilin 2 is most often studied in the context of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, where PKP2 loss-of-function variants destabilize desmosomes and predispose to fibrofatty replacement of the right ventricular myocardium. The same protein is used as a marker of epithelial differentiation and has been implicated in several carcinomas, so the antibody is also useful in tumor biology and dermatology research, including investigations of pemphigus and other desmosome-related skin disorders.

Each vial contains 100 µl of antibody at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant, which allows storage at -20 °C and limits damage from repeated freeze-thaw cycles. The polyclonal format increases the likelihood of detecting multiple epitopes on PKP2, which is helpful when probing truncated splice variants, patient-derived mutants, or samples where epitope accessibility is variable.

Provided by Antibodies.com, the reagent ships in a single-use vial format intended for research use only.
