Prohibitin (PHB) is a highly conserved ~32 kDa protein that localizes primarily to the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it assembles into ring-shaped chaperone complexes that support mitochondrial protein folding, respiratory chain stability, and the maintenance of mitochondrial DNA copy number. The same protein is also detected in the nucleus, where it contributes to transcriptional regulation through interactions with chromatin-associated factors, and at the plasma membrane in select cell types, where it participates in signaling events linked to cell survival and proliferation.

This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com recognizes PHB and is validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows across human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting cross-species comparative studies in cancer biology, metabolic disease, and aging research, where prohibitin abundance is commonly used as a read-out of mitochondrial integrity.

The antibody is supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated antiserum, which lets each lab conjugate it to its preferred reporter for fluorescence microscopy, chromogenic detection, or signal amplification. For long-term storage keep the vial at -20 °C and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles by aliquoting on first use; working aliquots can be refrigerated for short-term handling.
