Prohibitin (PHB) is a highly conserved ~32 kDa protein predominantly anchored to the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it acts as a chaperone that stabilizes respiratory chain supercomplexes and supports mitochondrial integrity. Beyond mitochondria, PHB translocates to the nucleus and contributes to transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis signaling, making it a target of interest in cancer biology, metabolic disease research, and aging studies.
