Raised in rabbit against the neuronal deubiquitinating enzyme UCHL1 (also called PGP9.5), this unconjugated polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com is supplied as 100 µl of antiserum and is validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows. PGP9.5 is a ~25 kDa thiol protease expressed at high levels in neurons and throughout the diffuse neuroendocrine system, which is why it has long served as a routine pan-neuronal marker in neuropathology and as a quantitative readout for nerve fiber density in skin and corneal biopsies. The antibody cross-reacts with the human, mouse, and rat orthologues, supporting comparative work in rodent injury models and human biopsy material on the same blot or tissue section. Researchers commonly apply it to label small-calibre sensory nerve endings in skin punch biopsies, to highlight neuroendocrine tumors in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue, and to monitor neuronal loss in spinal cord and brain sections. Provided as a liquid IgG fraction in a single vial, it is intended for research use only and should be aliquoted at receipt to limit freeze-thaw cycles during long-term storage.
