PDXK encodes pyridoxal kinase, the enzyme that converts vitamin B6 precursors (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine) into pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (PLP), the biologically active cofactor used by more than 140 enzymes involved in amino acid, neurotransmitter, and glucose metabolism.
