The Translocator Protein 18 kDa (TSPO), historically designated the Peripheral Benzodiazepine Receptor (PBR), is an outer mitochondrial membrane protein that mediates cholesterol import into mitochondria and supports steroid hormone biosynthesis, heme production, and the regulation of apoptosis. This polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is raised in rabbit and supplied at 1 mg/ml in PBS supplemented with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol; the unconjugated format gives researchers flexibility in choosing their own secondary detection reagents and labeling strategies.

Validated for Western blot, the reagent detects the target in human, mouse, and rat samples and is widely used to track TSPO expression in studies of neuroinflammation, activated microglia, steroidogenic tissues, and mitochondrial bioenergetics, where changes in PBR levels serve as a sensitive marker of microglial activation and mitochondrial dysfunction. Store the vial at -20 °C and divide into smaller working aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles. The 100 µl volume delivers enough reagent for many membranes at standard working dilutions, and the polyclonal mixture increases the likelihood of recognizing multiple epitopes on the target protein.
