The polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets p53, the ~53 kDa tumor-suppressor transcription factor encoded by the TP53 gene on human chromosome 17p13.1. Raised in rabbit and supplied as an unconjugated 100 µl aliquot, the antibody recognizes conserved epitopes of the TP53 protein and is validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA workflows on human, mouse, and rat samples.
Because TP53 is mutated in roughly half of all human cancers and germline TP53 alterations underlie Li-Fraumeni syndrome, this reagent is widely used to confirm TP53 status in tumor lysates, to follow DNA damage response signaling after genotoxic stress, and to characterize apoptotic induction in cultured cells. Researchers also deploy it to verify wild-type versus mutant p53 accumulation patterns, since stabilization of the protein is a hallmark of stress activation.
Polyclonal recognition is often chosen over a single monoclonal clone when epitope masking by mutation is a concern, giving broader coverage of TP53 variants across immunohistochemistry and Western blot analyses.
