Description

Rabbit polyclonal antibody to p38 (phospho-T180) available from Antibodies.com as a Primary Antibody. This unconjugated antibody is raised in rabbit and validated for Western Blot (WB) applications, with reactivity confirmed against Human, Mouse and Rat samples. The reagent is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) with 0.05% sodium azide, at approximately pH 7.2.

The immunogen is a synthetic phosphopeptide derived from human p38 around the phosphorylation site of Threonine 180. The antibody specifically detects endogenous levels of p38 protein only when phosphorylated at Thr180, recognising a target of approximately 42 kDa. It has been affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using the epitope-specific immunogen, achieving a purity greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE. One scientific validation image is available.

p38 proteins, also known as mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), play significant roles in many biological processes, including cell adhesion and spreading, cell differentiation and apoptosis. The family includes p38α (MAPK14), p38β (MAPK11) and p38γ (MAPK12), each containing a protein kinase domain and belonging to the MAP kinase family. These proteins are expressed in different areas throughout the body, with common expression patterns observed in the heart, and they use magnesium as a cofactor to catalyse the ATP-dependent phosphorylation of target proteins. Through their catalytic activity, p38α, p38β and p38γ are involved in signal transduction pathways, cytokine production, and cell proliferation and differentiation.
