Raised in rabbit against ornithine aminotransferase, this unconjugated polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets the mitochondrial matrix enzyme that catalyzes the pyridoxal-phosphate-dependent transfer of an amino group from L-ornithine to α-ketoglutarate, yielding glutamate-5-semialdehyde in the pathway that feeds proline and glutamate biosynthesis. The reagent is supplied as 100 µl of a 1 mg/ml stock in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, a cryoprotectant blend that supports storage at -20 °C with minimal freeze-thaw loss and stabilises the protein during transit.

Validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry, the antibody has been tested for reactivity against human, mouse, and rat OAT, which makes it a practical tool for labs profiling hepatic, renal, or retinal tissue where ornithine aminotransferase expression is being mapped. OAT deficiency is the molecular basis of gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina, so researchers using this reagent in IHC often pair it with patient-derived fibroblasts, hepatocyte lysates, or rodent retinal sections to study how enzyme levels change in disease models or in response to dietary arginine restriction.

The polyclonal format provides broader epitope coverage than a monoclonal, which is useful when a single epitope may be masked by aldehyde fixation in IHC or by SDS denaturation in western blot sample prep. Because the antibody is unconjugated, the end user selects the secondary antibody and detection chemistry, so the same vial can be moved between chromogenic IHC, fluorescence imaging, and standard chemiluminescent western blot protocols. Aliquot upon first thaw to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles, store at -20 °C, and protect from light if the vial sits at room temperature during a working session.
