This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com specifically targets O-phosphoseryl-tRNA (Sec) selenium transferase, the enzyme that catalyzes the terminal step of selenocysteine biosynthesis by converting O-phosphoseryl-tRNA(Sec) to selenocysteyl-tRNA(Sec) using selenophosphate as the active selenium donor. The unconjugated IgG is supplied at 100 µg per vial and is validated for Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) on human samples, making it a useful reagent for studying selenoprotein translation, redox biology, and the SEPSECS pathway.

Selenium is incorporated into proteins as the 21st amino acid, selenocysteine, and SepSecS (the protein product of SEPSECS) is essential for this co-translational insertion at UGA codons previously thought to be stop signals. Research applications include probing thyroid hormone metabolism (deiodinases are selenoproteins), glutathione peroxidase expression, thioredoxin reductase function, and immune signaling in which selenoproteins play regulatory roles. The polyclonal format offers broader epitope coverage than monoclonal alternatives, increasing the chance of detection across different protein isoforms and post-translational states.

For Western blot, separation by SDS-PAGE followed by transfer to nitrocellulose or PVDF and probing at standard dilutions is recommended. For IHC, antigen retrieval methods (citrate or EDTA-based) on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections should be applied before the primary antibody. Refrigerate short term; aliquot and freeze for long-term storage to preserve activity across freeze-thaw cycles. Provided as a research use only reagent, not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
