This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets NPHS1 (nephrin), the transmembrane adhesion protein that forms the structural backbone of the podocyte slit diaphragm in the kidney glomerulus. Nephrin is essential for maintaining the size- and charge-selective filtration barrier, and loss-of-function mutations in the NPHS1 gene are causative for congenital nephrotic syndrome of the Finnish type (CNF), making reliable detection of the protein a central requirement in renal pathology research.

The reagent is supplied as 200 µl of unconjugated IgG in liquid format, raised in rabbit, and validated for Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) workflows. Reactivity covers human and mouse samples, supporting translational studies that compare patient biopsy material with murine models of glomerular injury, diabetic nephropathy, and minimal change disease. For best results, store the vial refrigerated, avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and aliquot upon first use to preserve titre across long-term experiments.

Because nephrin expression is largely restricted to glomerular podocytes under physiological conditions, this antibody is commonly paired with podocyte markers such as WT1, synaptopodin, or podocin in multiplexed IHC panels, and used alongside standard loading controls in WB to confirm podocyte-specific loss in disease-versus-control comparisons.
