NEFM (Neurofilament Medium chain, also called NF-M) is a class IV intermediate filament protein that co-assembles with NEFL and NEFH to form the structural core of mature neuronal axons, and this polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets the human isoform for neuroscience research applications. The antibody is raised in rabbit and supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated polyclonal antibody, validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry on human samples.

Laboratories use this reagent to study axonal architecture, neuronal cytoskeletal organization, and altered neurofilament expression patterns in neurodegenerative disease, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy. The unconjugated format leaves detection chemistry open, allowing researchers to pair it with HRP-, biotin-, or fluorophore-conjugated secondaries depending on the workflow. For western blot, the reagent is typically applied to neuronal cell lysates and brain or spinal cord tissue homogenates; immunohistochemistry workflows use it to visualize neurofilament-positive axons and neuronal cell bodies in fixed sections.

Store refrigerated for short-term use; aliquot and freeze at -20 °C for long-term storage to preserve antibody activity across multiple experiments. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles by preparing working aliquots on first use.
