Anti-NEFL Antibody

This rabbit polyclonal antibody targets NEFL (neurofilament light polypeptide), a 68 kDa intermediate filament protein expressed in the cytoplasm of mature neurons and used widely as a marker of axonal integrity. Raised in rabbits and supplied unconjugated by Antibodies.com at 1 mg/mL in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant, the reagent is packaged in 100 µL aliquots enabling multiple experiments. Validated applications include Western blot for resolving full-length and proteolytic NEFL fragments in cell lysates and cerebrospinal fluid samples, immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded brain sections, and immunofluorescence imaging of cultured neurons and tissue cryosections. The antibody shows reactivity with human, mouse, and rat NEFL, supporting cross-species studies of neurodegenerative disease models, traumatic brain injury, and peripheral neuropathies. For best results, store aliquots at -20°C, avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and protect from light to preserve fluorescence-labelling efficiency when the antibody is later conjugated. The polyclonal format increases the likelihood of recognising multiple epitopes on the rod and tail domains of NEFL, which is helpful when studying post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation that accompany neuronal development and injury responses.
