NCOA4 is a nuclear receptor coactivator also known as ARA70 that has emerged as a central regulator of intracellular iron homeostasis through its role in ferritinophagy. Functionally, NCOA4 acts as a selective cargo receptor that binds ferritin heavy chain and delivers it to autophagosomes for lysosomal degradation, releasing free iron into the cytoplasm. Because this pathway controls cellular iron availability, the reagent is widely used to study ferroptosis, erythropoiesis, and disorders of iron metabolism, as well as androgen receptor signaling in prostate and other hormone-responsive tissues.
