NAPRT (nicotinate phosphoribosyltransferase; EC 2.4.2.11) catalyzes the conversion of nicotinic acid (niacin) to NA mononucleotide (NaMN), which is subsequently converted to NA adenine dinucleotide (NaAD) and finally to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), a coenzyme central to cellular redox reactions and an essential component of metabolic processes including the response to stress.
