Raised in rabbit against the myosin heavy chain 8 (MYH8) protein, this polyclonal antibody recognizes an epitope on the developmental skeletal muscle isoform that functions as a key component of the sarcomeric thick filament. Myosin-8 is transiently expressed during late fetal and early postnatal muscle development, and is also detectable in certain smooth muscle and non-muscle contexts, where it contributes to ATP-dependent actin filament motility.

The reagent is supplied by Antibodies.com as 100 µl of unconjugated whole IgG at 1 mg/ml, formulated in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) with 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, and is validated for Western blot detection of endogenous MYH8 in lysates from human, mouse, and rat tissues. Researchers commonly probe developmental muscle extracts and myogenic cell line lysates with this antibody to study the transition between fetal and adult myosin heavy chain expression programs, a process relevant to congenital myopathy and trismus-pseudocamptodactyly syndrome (TPS), in which MYH8 carries disease-causing mutations.

On Western blot, the expected band appears near the native molecular weight of approximately 223 kDa, and small aliquots should be stored refrigerated to preserve activity across multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
