Myogenin (MYOG) is a muscle-restricted basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor that drives terminal differentiation of committed myoblasts into mature skeletal muscle fibers. The Antibodies.com Anti-MYOG reagent is a rabbit polyclonal IgG supplied as 100 µl at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, unconjugated and validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry on human, mouse, and rat samples.

Because endogenous myogenin expression is largely confined to developing, regenerating, and neoplastic skeletal muscle, antibodies against this target are routinely used by pathology laboratories as immunohistochemical markers to distinguish rhabdomyosarcoma from other small round blue cell tumours, and by muscle biologists to score fusion of satellite-cell-derived myotubes in differentiation assays. The polyclonal format increases the chance of recognising multiple epitopes across the 25 kDa target, which is useful on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue where antigen masking can weaken signal. Store the vial frozen at -20 °C in working aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and protect from light; the high-glycerol formulation permits brief handling at 4 °C without appreciable loss of activity.

This is a research-use-only reagent, with optimal working dilution dependent on the user's detection chemistry and tissue or lysate preparation.
