MUC1 is a heavily glycosylated type I transmembrane mucin expressed on the apical surface of glandular and simple epithelia, where its extracellular tandem-repeat domain contributes to a protective mucous barrier. In carcinomas of the breast, ovary, pancreas, colon, and lung, the protein is frequently overexpressed, aberrantly under-glycosylated, and loses its apical polarity, which is why it has been studied extensively as a tumor-associated antigen and prognostic marker in epithelial cancer research.

This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets the native human MUC1 polypeptide and is supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated antibody for Western blot analysis of the full-length precursor and its cleaved alpha and beta subunits, immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed tissue sections, immunofluorescence staining of cultured epithelial monolayers, and ELISA-based quantitation. The reagent is reactive with human samples and is widely used by groups investigating glandular differentiation, ductal morphogenesis, mucin trafficking, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in breast and pancreatic cancer models.
