Raised in rabbit against a synthetic peptide from human mitochondrial ribosomal protein S16, this unconjugated polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com recognizes the bS16m component of the 28S small subunit of the mammalian mitoribosome. The target is a 137-amino acid, 15.3 kDa protein (UniProt Q9Y3D3) that is synthesized in the cytoplasm and imported into mitochondria, where it supports translation of the 13 mitochondrially encoded oxidative phosphorylation subunits. Biallelic MRPS16 loss-of-function mutations cause combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency type 2 (COXPD2), documented in patients with agenesis of the corpus callosum and fatal neonatal lactic acidosis.

The antibody cross-reacts with MRPS16 from human, mouse, and rat samples (the mouse and human orthologs share 91.1% amino-acid identity), supporting comparative studies in cell culture and tissue lysates. It is validated for western blot detection of MRPS16 in mitochondrial and whole-cell lysates and is also applicable to ELISA, immunohistochemistry, and immunocytochemistry workflows. Affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum, the reagent is supplied as 200 µl of liquid stock in a vial with PBS buffer containing 50% glycerol.

For handling, aliquot upon arrival and store at -20 °C in a frost-free freezer, avoiding repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve immunoreactivity. For research use only.
