As a structural building block of the 39S large subunit within the human 55S mitochondrial ribosome, MRP-L14 supports translation of the 13 mtDNA-encoded oxidative phosphorylation subunits. This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is raised against MRP-L14 and supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated, ready-to-use reagent in a single-use vial, validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA across human, mouse, and rat samples.
The target is encoded in the nucleus, translated on cytosolic ribosomes, and imported into the mitochondrial matrix where it joins the translation machinery. Altered expression of MRPL14 has been examined in studies of mitochondrial biogenesis, metabolic disease, and cancer cell metabolism, making the protein a relevant marker in research on nucleo-mitochondrial gene expression regulation. Researchers investigating OXPHOS complex assembly, mitochondrial translation, or respiratory chain remodeling can use this reagent to probe steady-state MRPL14 levels in cell lysates and tissue sections.
In western blot, the antibody recognizes an endogenous band consistent with the predicted molecular weight of MRPL14 in mitochondria-enriched fractions. In immunohistochemistry, it produces a granular cytoplasmic staining pattern in tissues with high oxidative metabolism, reflecting the mitochondrial distribution of the target. The polyclonal format increases the likelihood of recognizing multiple epitopes on MRPL14, which is useful when probing across species or when working with samples that may carry post-translational modifications of the ribosomal subunit.
Store refrigerated at 4 degrees C with the supplied preservative, avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and aliquot before long-term storage to preserve activity. The unconjugated format lets researchers pair the antibody with their own choice of secondary detection reagent, fluorescent label, or HRP conjugation depending on the assay platform.
