MMP1 is a zinc-dependent endopeptidase best known for initiating cleavage of fibrillar type I, II, and III collagens, making antibodies against it useful in studies of tumor invasion, wound remodeling, arthritic joint destruction, and dermal collagen turnover. Researchers commonly deploy this reagent on cell lysates and fixed tissue sections to localize MMP1 expression in epithelial, stromal, and infiltrating immune compartments.
