Raised in rabbit against human motilin (MLN), this unconjugated polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com recognizes the 22-amino acid peptide hormone secreted by enteroendocrine M cells of the proximal small intestine. The reagent supports three standard immunodetection workflows: Western blot of tissue or cell lysates, immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections, and immunofluorescence on cultured cells.
The antibody ships as 100 µl of a 1 mg/ml stock in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol. The glycerol cryoprotectant keeps the solution liquid at -20 °C for long-term storage; for routine bench use, thaw on ice, aliquot to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and store the working vial refrigerated at 4 °C. Spin briefly before opening to recover liquid from the cap.
Motilin drives the migrating motor complex (MMC) that sweeps through the stomach and upper gut during the interdigestive period, and it signals through the GPR38/MLNR G protein-coupled receptor. Researchers apply this reagent to map hormone distribution in human duodenal and jejunal biopsies, to characterize enteroendocrine cell populations in motility disorders such as gastroparesis and irritable bowel syndrome, and to validate motilin-receptor signaling in vitro and in vivo. Reactivity is reported for human; cross-reactivity with other species has not been formally characterized.
For Western blot, expect a band consistent with mature motilin at approximately 2.7 kDa, with possible higher-mass precursor species in whole-tissue lysates. For IHC, heat-induced epitope retrieval in citrate buffer (pH 6.0) on paraffin sections generally improves signal. Research use only.
