The MER proto-oncogene tyrosine kinase (MerTK) is a TAM-family receptor that mediates efferocytosis, the clearance of apoptotic cells, and modulates innate immune signaling in macrophages and other phagocytes. This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com was raised against MerTK and recognizes the human and mouse orthologs, supporting studies in cancer biology, immunology, and retinal pigment epithelium research where aberrant MerTK activity contributes to disease.

Provided as 100 µl of unconjugated antibody at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant, the reagent is suited to Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows on prepared cell lysates and fixed tissue sections. The glycerol-containing formulation remains liquid at typical freezer storage temperatures, simplifying handling between runs and reducing repeated freeze-thaw stress on the immunoglobulin. For IHC, antigen retrieval conditions should be optimized empirically for each preparation, and endogenous peroxidase activity should be quenched before chromogenic detection.

The polyclonal format increases the likelihood of binding to multiple epitopes across the MerTK extracellular and intracellular regions, which can be useful when probing protein cleavage products or phosphorylation-dependent conformational states. Researchers studying efferocytosis regulators, GAS6 and Protein S ligand signaling, and tumor-associated macrophage phenotypes frequently pair MerTK detection with markers such as CD206, CD163, or AXL to profile TAM-family expression patterns in situ and in cell lysates.
