The MDK gene encodes Midkine, a heparin-binding growth factor active in embryonic development, neuronal survival, inflammatory signaling, and tumor progression. This unconjugated polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com was raised in rabbit and validated for western blot detection of endogenous Midkine protein in human, mouse, and rat samples, making it useful for comparative studies across cancer, neurobiology, and developmental signaling models.

The antibody is supplied in a vial as 100 µl of a 1 mg/ml stock in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, ready to dilute into standard blocking and incubation buffers. Sodium azide at this level acts as a preservative that maintains reagent stability over the working shelf life; researchers planning to conjugate the antibody or use azide-sensitive downstream chemistries should remove the azide or account for its presence. Because the reagent is polyclonal, the antibody pool recognizes multiple epitopes across the Midkine primary sequence, which can help when probing for splice variants, processed fragments, or species orthologs where a single monoclonal epitope might diverge.

The reactivity profile covering human, mouse, and rat makes this reagent practical across established cell lines, primary cultures, and tissue lysates. For western blot workflows, a typical starting protocol loads 20–40 µg of total protein per lane, separates by SDS-PAGE, transfers to nitrocellulose or PVDF, and probes at a final antibody concentration of 0.5–2 µg/ml, adjusting for target abundance and signal strength. Aliquot the stock upon receipt to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and keep the vial refrigerated between uses to preserve activity.
