The MCT4 (Monocarboxylate Transporter 4) protein, encoded by SLC16A3, mediates proton-linked transport of monocarboxylates such as L-lactate and pyruvate across the plasma membrane.

This Antibodies.com rabbit polyclonal reagent was raised against a conserved region of MCT4 and is validated for Western blot and ELISA workflows. The unconjugated antibody is supplied as a 100 µl aliquot and recognizes the transporter in human, mouse, and rat samples, enabling cross-species comparison in cell lysates and tissue homogenates.

MCT4 expression is commonly characterized in studies of cancer metabolism, where glycolytic tumor cells upregulate this transporter to export lactate, acidify the tumor microenvironment, and influence neighboring stromal and immune cell function. Investigators also examine MCT4 alongside its paralog MCT1 to map lactate shuttle activity in skeletal muscle, brain astrocytes, cardiomyocytes, and hypoxic tissue niches.

Typical experimental use includes probing whole-cell extracts by immunoblotting, confirming knockout or siRNA-mediated knockdown of SLC16A3, and tracking transporter induction under hypoxia-mimetic conditions. The polyclonal format offers signal amplification across multiple epitopes, supporting detection in archived rodent tissue and engineered cell line panels.
