Anti-MC1R Antibody

The Antibodies.com polyclonal antibody targets the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R), a seven-transmembrane G-protein coupled receptor expressed primarily on melanocytes. MC1R couples to Gαs and signals through cAMP upon binding α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), driving the cAMP/PKA/CREB axis that upregulates MITF and shifts melanin synthesis toward eumelanin. The receptor is a focal point in pigmentation biology, photosensitivity research, and melanoma susceptibility studies, where common loss-of-function alleles such as R151C, R160W, and D294H have been linked to the red hair/fair skin phenotype and elevated UV-induced damage risk.

Raised in rabbit and purified as an unconjugated IgG polyclonal, this reagent is validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry on human and mouse samples. Specificity is established for MC1R in human and mouse tissue, while reactivity in other species has not been validated.
