Targeting Lecithin Retinol Acyltransferase (LRAT, EC 2.3.1.135), this polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is raised in rabbit and supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated antiserum. LRAT catalyzes the transfer of an acyl group from the sn-1 position of phosphatidylcholine (lecithin) to all-trans-retinol, generating retinyl esters that constitute the principal storage depot of vitamin A in hepatic stellate cells and supply the visual chromophore 11-cis-retinal in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). Because loss-of-function mutations in LRAT are linked to Leber congenital amaurosis and early-onset retinitis pigmentosa, the antibody is a standard tool for vision research, hepatic retinoid studies, and stem-cell-derived RPE differentiation protocols.

The reagent is validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and ELISA workflows and reacts with human, mouse, and rat samples. Typical uses include probing RPE and hepatic lysates to monitor LRAT induction by fatty acid or retinoid treatments, localizing endogenous LRAT in paraffin-embedded liver and retinal sections, and tracking expression in iPSC-derived retinal organoids. For handling, store frozen at -20 °C in working aliquots to limit freeze-thaw damage, refrigerate at 4 °C for short-term use, and protect from light; the 100 µl vial size accommodates multiple pilot experiments without committing the entire stock.
