Raised in rabbit against the LIM-homeodomain transcription factor LMX1B, this polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com is supplied as 50 µL of unconjugated antibody. The target gene maps to chromosome 9q33.3 and encodes a protein with two N-terminal LIM domains plus a C-terminal homeodomain; heterozygous loss-of-function mutations cause Nail-Patella Syndrome (NPS, OMIM 161200), an autosomal dominant disorder featuring nail dysplasia, absent or hypoplastic patellae, iliac horns, and progressive glomerular nephropathy that develops in roughly 10 to 40 percent of patients.

The reagent is intended for Western blot and immunohistochemistry on human and mouse samples. Polyclonal recognition of multiple epitopes is particularly useful on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue, where single-epitope monoclonal signals often drop out because of cross-linking and masking. Investigators apply it to track LMX1B-driven transcriptional programs in renal podocytes, where LMX1B directly activates CD2AP and NPHS2 (podocin) and is required for normal foot-process and slit-diaphragm formation, as well as in midbrain dopaminergic neurons and the embryonic limb bud.

Three LMX1B isoforms are documented in human cells, and the protein functions as a dorsal-ventral limb patterning determinant upstream of collagen IV and other glomerular basement membrane components. For best results, aliquot upon arrival to limit freeze-thaw cycles, store at -20 °C, and protect from light to preserve IgG activity through the product shelf life.
