Laminin α-5 is a cruciform glycoprotein and a central organizing component of basement membranes, where it polymerizes with β and γ chains to build the sheet-like scaffold that separates epithelia from underlying stroma. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com was raised against the N-terminal region of the human laminin α-5 chain (LAMA5), the ~400 kDa subunit that drives laminin-511 and laminin-521 heterotrimer assembly. Supplied as a 100 µl aliquot at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (pH ~7.2) with 0.05% sodium azide as preservative, the antibody is validated for western blot detection of the full-length chain under reducing conditions and for immunohistochemistry on frozen and paraffin-embedded tissue sections. It cross-reacts with mouse laminin α-5, supporting comparative studies of glomerular, alveolar, and dermal basement membranes in human and murine models. The reagent is intended for research use only and has appeared in published work on kidney glomerulogenesis, neural tube closure, wound repair, and tumor stroma remodeling, where it is used alongside standard chromogenic and fluorescence detection systems.
