Raised in rabbit and purified by affinity chromatography against the immunogen, this polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is designed to detect endogenous levels of total KRT5 (keratin 5, type II), a type II cytoskeletal keratin widely used as a marker of basal epithelial cells. The antibody was generated against a recombinant human KRT5 protein and is supplied at a concentration of 1.0 mg/mL in a phosphate-buffered saline formulation (pH 7.4, 150 mM NaCl) containing 0.02% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant. It is unconjugated, allowing users to choose their own detection label or secondary reporter system, and is offered in a 50 µL pack size that ships on cold gel packs at 4 °C; for long-term stability, aliquots should be stored at –20 °C with freeze/thaw cycles avoided. In validation studies the reagent has been tested in Western blotting (WB), immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence (ICC/IF) and immunohistochemistry (IHC), and it has been confirmed to react with Human and Mouse samples. Typical working applications include staining basal cells of stratified and glandular epithelia, characterizing squamous and basal-type carcinoma cell lines, and verifying epithelial identity in co-culture or differentiation models. The polyclonal format gives broader epitope coverage than a monoclonal clone, which is helpful when probing post-translationally modified or partially degraded keratin 5 in cell lysates and tissue sections.
