The polyclonal antibody raised in rabbit targets Keratin 5 (KRT5), a type II intermediate filament protein expressed in the basal layer of stratified and simple epithelia. Distributed by Antibodies.com as an unconjugated primary antibody, the reagent is supplied as a 100 µl aliquot and supports Western blot and immunofluorescence workflows against human, mouse, and rat samples.

Keratin 5 partners with KRT14 to form the cytoskeletal framework of basal keratinocytes and serves as a widely accepted lineage marker in skin biology, oral and esophageal epithelial studies, lung basal cell research, and basal-like breast carcinoma investigations. Researchers investigating epithelial-mesenchymal transition, wound healing responses, and tissue-resident stem cell populations rely on KRT5 immunostaining to distinguish basal progenitors from more differentiated suprabasal cells.

For Western blot, the antibody is applied to whole-cell or tissue lysates to reveal a band near the expected molecular weight of approximately 62 kDa. For immunofluorescence on fixed cells or cryosections, it produces cytoplasmic filament labeling consistent with the intermediate filament network. Aliquot on arrival and store frozen at -20 °C in working volumes to limit freeze-thaw cycles and preserve reactivity across multiple experiments.

Because the reagent is unconjugated, it pairs cleanly with HRP- or fluorophore-tagged secondary antibodies chosen by the end user, giving flexibility across membrane-based chemiluminescent detection or confocal imaging platforms.
