The KCNJ16 gene product Kir5.1 is an inward-rectifier potassium channel that assembles with Kir4.1 to form heteromeric channels in renal distal tubules and brain glial cells, where the complex contributes to basolateral K+ recycling, membrane potential maintenance, and bicarbonate handling in the distal nephron. This Antibodies.com polyclonal reagent, raised in rabbit, was generated against a defined region of the human Kir5.1 protein and is validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows on human tissue and cell preparations. The unconjugated IgG preparation is supplied in a 100 µl volume and is intended for research use only, allowing researchers to pair the antibody with their own secondary reagents for chromogenic, fluorescent, or chemiluminescent detection. Because Kir5.1 is enriched in kidney cortex, astrocytes, and certain polarized epithelial lines, the reagent is widely used to map channel distribution in rodent models and human biopsy material, to track heteromer formation with Kir4.1, and to investigate the channel's role in salt-sensitive blood pressure regulation and acid-base homeostasis. Aliquoting upon receipt is recommended to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles and preserve binding activity across long-term studies.
