Raised in rabbit against the type I cytokeratin Keratin 16, this unconjugated polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com supports Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows on samples from human, mouse, and rat origins. The target protein, encoded by the KRT16 gene, is expressed primarily in stratified squamous epithelia and is widely used as a marker of hyperproliferative keratinocytes in skin biology studies.

Researchers studying epidermal differentiation, wound repair, psoriatic lesions, and epithelial tumor biology rely on Keratin 16 immunolabeling to distinguish proliferative basal-layer populations from quiescent suprabasal cells. Mutations in KRT16 are linked to pachyonychia congenita, making this antibody a relevant tool in dermatological genetics research as well as in broader epithelial pathology. Supplied as a 100 µl aliquot, the antibody can be further aliquoted to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles and preserve reagent activity over time.

Typical applications include Western blot detection of the approximately 47 kDa Keratin 16 band and immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections. As an unconjugated preparation, it remains compatible with user-defined secondary antibody and detection chemistries, including HRP, fluorescence, and chromogenic formats.
