The KCNJ2 gene encodes the inwardly rectifying potassium channel Kir2.1, a membrane protein best known for stabilizing the resting membrane potential and shaping cardiac phase 3 repolarization. Loss-of-function mutations in KCNJ2 are causally linked to Andersen-Tawil syndrome (also referred to as LQT7), a heritable channelopathy marked by periodic paralysis, ventricular arrhythmias, and dysmorphic features, while gain-of-function variants underlie short QT syndrome type 3. Because Kir2.1 is also expressed in skeletal muscle and in defined neuronal populations, the channel is a recurring target in studies of excitability, arrhythmia mechanisms, and skeletal muscle channelopathies.

Anti-KCNJ2 Antibody from Antibodies.com is a rabbit polyclonal reagent raised against this channel, supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated IgG validated for Western blot detection of endogenous Kir2.1 in human and mouse samples. The polyclonal format offers recognition of multiple epitopes on the target, which is useful when probing channel expression across tissues such as heart, skeletal muscle, and brain, where Kir2.1 isoforms play distinct physiological roles. Researchers using this reagent for cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmia mechanism studies, or skeletal muscle channelopathy research will find the unconjugated format flexible for downstream labeling with HRP, fluorophores, or biotin depending on the chosen detection chemistry.
