This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets KCNJ10, the inward rectifier potassium channel Kir4.1. Kir4.1 is the principal glial K+ channel responsible for spatial potassium buffering in the central nervous system, where it is expressed by astrocytic and oligodendroglial membranes. The same channel is also present in the basolateral membrane of distal renal tubules and in the stria vascularis of the inner ear, where it supports endolymph homeostasis and auditory function.

Loss-of-function mutations in KCNJ10 cause EAST/SeSAME syndrome (epilepsy, ataxia, sensorineural deafness, and renal tubulopathy), and altered Kir4.1 expression has been reported in multiple sclerosis lesions and in several autism spectrum disorder studies, making this reagent relevant for translational neuroscience research.

The antibody is supplied as 50 µl of unconjugated IgG raised in rabbit, validated for Western blot detection of human, mouse, and rat samples. Researchers studying astrocyte physiology, glial scar formation, auditory hair cell support, or renal ion transport will find it applicable to their Western blot workflows.
