JUP encodes junction plakoglobin (also called gamma-catenin), a structural component of desmosomes and adherens junctions that anchors the cytoplasmic tail of classical and desmosomal cadherins to the intermediate filament and actin cytoskeleton. Produced in rabbit as an unconjugated polyclonal reagent, this Antibodies.com antibody is supplied at 100 µl volume and validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence detection of the target in human, mouse, and rat samples.

In epithelial and cardiac tissue, JUP supports mechanical coupling between neighbouring cells, and loss-of-function mutations in the gene are associated with Naxos disease and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, making this reagent relevant to cardiac and dermatological research, including studies of desmosome assembly, intercellular adhesion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in cancer models. For western blot, the antibody recognises a band at approximately 82 kDa corresponding to full-length junction plakoglobin; on immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry of fixed cells or tissue, the expected signal localises to cell-cell borders in epithelial sheets and to intercalated discs in cardiac muscle.

The reagent is supplied as a liquid in a 100 µl vial and is intended for research use only, with refrigerated short-term storage and aliquoting recommended for longer-term stability, avoiding repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Researchers are advised to titrate the antibody empirically against their own sample preparation and detection system.
