JMJD6 (Jumonji domain-containing 6) is a bifunctional, iron-dependent nuclear enzyme with both lysyl hydroxylase activity (hydroxylating substrates such as the U2AF65 splicing factor) and arginine demethylase activity toward methylarginine residues on histones H3R2 and H4R3. It participates in spliceosome assembly, transcription elongation, hypoxia-responsive gene control, and developmental patterning, making it a relevant target in chromatin and RNA-biology research.
