Involucrin (IVL) is a structural precursor protein that becomes enzymatically cross-linked during formation of the cornified cell envelope in terminally differentiating keratinocytes. This rabbit polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com is raised against human IVL and is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows performed on human tissue. The unconjugated reagent is supplied as 100 µl of polyclonal antiserum, leaving the choice of secondary detection chemistry, fluorophore, or enzyme conjugate to the end user.

Because involucrin expression rises as squamous epithelial cells mature, this reagent is widely used to map keratinocyte terminal differentiation, characterize stratified squamous epithelia such as skin, oral mucosa, esophageal lining, and ectocervix, and to distinguish squamous from non-squamous lesions in dermatopathology and cancer research. Typical deployments include immunostaining of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded biopsies for IHC and probing of whole-cell lysates or stratum corneum extracts by WB. Reactivity is reported for human samples, and the polyclonal format increases the likelihood of recognizing multiple epitopes on the IVL target across denaturing and native preparations.
