Integrin alpha 4 (ITGA4) is a transmembrane cell-adhesion receptor that heterodimerizes with integrin beta 1 (ITGB1) or integrin beta 7 (ITGB7) to form the integrins α4β1 (VLA-4) and α4β7. These heterodimers mediate firm leukocyte arrest on vascular endothelium, lymphocyte homing to mucosal and inflamed tissues, and outside-in signaling that shapes immune-cell migration. α4β1 engages VCAM-1 (CD106) while α4β7 binds MAdCAM-1, and both adhesion pathways are active research targets in models of multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, allergic airway inflammation, and transplant rejection. Clinically, blockade of α4 by natalizumab or selective blockade of α4β7 by vedolizumab validates the biological relevance of this receptor pair.

This Antibodies.com reagent is a rabbit polyclonal anti-ITGA4 antibody, unconjugated and validated for western blot. It cross-reacts with human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting comparative immunoblotting across species. The antibody is supplied as 100 µl of a 1 mg/ml stock in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.3. Typical applications include expression profiling of α4 integrins in immune-cell subsets, signaling studies downstream of VCAM-1 engagement, and characterization of adhesion-receptor regulation in vitro and in animal disease models.
