Description

A rabbit monoclonal antibody raised against IRF1, offered by Antibodies.com as a recombinant rabbit monoclonal preparation. The unconjugated antibody is of the IgG isotype and recognises the IRF1 target with a reported molecular weight of approximately 37 and 48 kDa.

Recommended applications are Western blot (WB), immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence (ICC/IF), immunohistochemistry (IHC) and flow cytometry (FC), and the reagent reacts with human, mouse and rat samples. It is Protein A affinity purified and supplied in 1× TBS (pH7.4) containing 1% BSA and 40% glycerol, with 0.05% sodium azide as preservative. The antibody specifically detects endogenous levels of IRF1 and does not cross-react with related proteins.

IRF1 (Interferon regulatory factor-1) is a DNA-binding factor that regulates type I interferon (IFN-α and IFN-β) genes and interferon-inducible genes. It shares DNA-binding specificity with the related factor IRF-2: both bind the same cis elements within the IFN-α and IFN-β promoters, with IRF-1 acting as an activator of interferon transcription and IRF-2 repressing IRF-1 action. The two factors have been reported to act in a mutually antagonistic manner in the regulation of cell growth — overexpression of IRF-2 has been linked to cell transformation, while concomitant overexpression of IRF-1 has been linked to reversion. Together with IRF-3, IRF-4, IRF-5, IRF-6, IRF-7, ISGF-3γ p48 (a component of the ISGF-3 complex) and IFN consensus sequence-binding protein (ICSBP), they form a larger family of DNA-binding proteins.
