Raised in rabbit against the alpha-internexin (INA) protein, this polyclonal antibody recognizes a class IV neuronal intermediate filament expressed in the central and peripheral nervous system. It is supplied by Antibodies.com as an unconjugated, 100 µl liquid aliquot at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant, ready for dilution into standard immunodetection buffers.

The reagent is validated for western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) on human and mouse specimens. Western blot typically resolves a band consistent with the expected alpha-internexin molecular weight under denaturing conditions, while IHC produces cytoplasmic staining of neuronal cell bodies and processes in brain sections. The polyclonal format increases the likelihood of signal retention in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue, where epitope masking by crosslinking is a common obstacle.

Alpha-internexin is used as a neuronal marker in developmental neurobiology, in studies of axonal and cytoskeletal architecture, and in research on neurodegenerative disease, where altered intermediate filament expression accompanies neuronal injury. Cross-reactivity with both human and mouse targets enables direct comparison between rodent disease models and patient-derived material. For storage, the antibody should be kept refrigerated and protected from light; small aliquots help limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles that degrade polyclonal preparations.
