Interleukin-5 is a homodimeric Th2-associated cytokine that governs eosinophil production, activation, recruitment, and survival, and is a focus of research into allergic asthma, eosinophilic esophagitis, hypereosinophilic syndrome, helminth infection, and certain B-cell malignancies. This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets IL-5 and has been validated for Western blot detection of the cytokine in cell lysates and tissue extracts from human, mouse, and rat samples.

The antibody is supplied as 100 µl at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide as a preservative, at approximately pH 7.2. The unconjugated format allows direct coupling to fluorophores, biotin, HRP, or other reporter molecules for downstream immunoassay development, and the polyclonal recognition profile covers multiple epitopes on the IL-5 homodimer, useful when a single monoclonal may miss denatured or truncated targets on a blot.

Standard workflows load 20-40 µg of total protein per lane, separate by SDS-PAGE, transfer to nitrocellulose or PVDF, and probe at 0.1-1 µg/ml of primary antibody followed by an HRP-conjugated anti-rabbit secondary. IL-5 runs as a monomer near 20-25 kDa and as a disulfide-linked dimer closer to 40-50 kDa, so band identity is confirmed against recombinant IL-5 controls or matched knockout lysates when available. Refrigerated storage at approximately 4 °C is appropriate for working aliquots, with longer-term stocks held frozen at -20 °C to limit freeze-thaw damage to the antibody.
