Raised in rabbit against human Interferon-gamma, this polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets the cytokine that drives Th1-type cell-mediated immunity. The unconjugated reagent is validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA, giving researchers flexibility across protein detection workflows from cell lysates to fixed tissue sections to secreted cytokine quantification.
Interferon-gamma is the sole type II interferon, a homodimeric cytokine produced chiefly by activated CD4+ Th1 cells, CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes, and natural killer cells. It signals through the IFNGR1/IFNGR2 receptor complex, upregulates MHC class I and II expression, and activates macrophages. The monomer runs at approximately 17 kDa, with the native glycosylated homodimer migrating near 34-50 kDa depending on glycosylation state. Because IFN-γ marks functional Th1 polarization, it is routinely probed in studies of infectious disease, tumor immunology, autoimmune pathology, and vaccine responses.
For Western blotting, lysates from stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells or Jurkat T cells provide a positive signal. In immunohistochemistry, the antibody supports staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue, allowing localization of IFN-γ-producing cells within inflamed or tumor microenvironments. For ELISA, the reagent can be paired with a matched detection antibody to measure secreted IFN-γ in cell culture supernatant. The antibody shows reactivity specifically with human IFN-γ.
Each vial contains 50 µl of antibody, sufficient for multiple experiments depending on dilution. Aliquoting upon arrival is recommended to limit freeze-thaw cycles and preserve binding activity across the shelf life. Store refrigerated and protect from light. Intended for research use only.
