This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets human interferon gamma (IFN-γ), a Type II cytokine central to Th1-mediated immunity, macrophage activation, and antiviral defense. Raised in rabbit, the reagent is supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated antisera and is validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA workflows. IFN-γ is secreted mainly by activated NK cells and CD4+ Th1 lymphocytes, where it triggers JAK-STAT signaling through the IFNGR1/IFNGR2 receptor complex to upregulate MHC class II expression and induce antimicrobial effector pathways.

The unconjugated format provides flexibility for downstream labeling with HRP, biotin, or fluorophore conjugates to match the detection chemistry of choice. For Western blot, the antibody can be used to probe IFN-γ in lysates from activated T cells or NK cells, commonly detecting a band near 17-25 kDa depending on glycosylation state. In immunohistochemistry, it enables visualization of IFN-γ-producing cells in tissue sections such as inflamed mucosa, granulomas, or tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte populations. For ELISA, the polyclonal format offers broader epitope coverage than monoclonal alternatives when capturing low-abundance cytokine in conditioned media or stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cell supernatants.

Storage: aliquot upon receipt and freeze at -20 °C to preserve activity, avoiding repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Working aliquots may be refrigerated for short-term use. The reagent is supplied in a vial format for research use only and is not approved for diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
