The HSD11B1 enzyme, also known as 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1, is a NADPH-dependent oxidoreductase anchored in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane that converts cortisone into the active glucocorticoid cortisol. Distributed across liver, adipose, and central nervous system tissues, it has been linked in published studies to metabolic syndrome, hepatic gluconeogenesis, adipose tissue expansion, and age-related cognitive decline, which makes it a focus of ongoing research in endocrinology and metabolic disease.

This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is raised against HSD11B1 and validated for Western blot. It cross-reacts with Human, Mouse, and Rat samples, supporting translational work that bridges rodent disease models with human clinical specimens. Supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) with 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, the format is convenient for direct dilution into standard immunoblotting buffers without further preparation.

The 100 µl pack size is supplied for research use only and suits laboratories running Western blot surveys of glucocorticoid signaling, hepatic and adipose HSD11B1 expression, or pharmacological screens of selective 11β-HSD1 inhibitors under development for type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Because the antibody recognizes the target near the expected ~34 kDa band, it can be paired with housekeeping markers such as β-actin or GAPDH to normalize expression across treatment groups.
